Silverdale Schools Lagos recognizes that the welfare and safety of our children is paramount. We believe that all children, regardless of age, gender, ability, culture, race, or religion, have equal rights to protection from all types of harm or abuse.

This policy applies to all staff, including executive management, teachers, administration, auxiliary staff, volunteers, interns, and anyone working on behalf of the school.

Maintain professional boundaries at all times.

Ensure any physical contact is appropriate, necessary, and publicly defensible.

Do not engage in private communications with students via personal social media or messaging applications.

Always work in an open and transparent environment, avoiding situations where staff and individual students are alone behind closed doors.

Step 1: Any staff member who suspects abuse or receives a disclosure must document the observation immediately using the Incident Log Form.

Step 2: Submit the report to the DSL within 2 hours of the incident or disclosure.

Step 3: The DSL will review and, where necessary, convene the Safeguarding Committee to assess action, which may include contacting parent guardians, counseling departments, or relevant child protection agencies (e.g., Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development).

Our discipline policy is built on the foundation of our motto, 'To Excel'. We aim to foster self-discipline, mutual respect, and social responsibility.

Silverdale Schools utilizes positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to encourage constructive behaviors, focusing on rehabilitation and reflection rather than merely punitive actions.

Respect: All students must speak respectfully to teachers, staff, and peers.

Punctuality: Students must arrive at assembly by 7:45 AM daily.

Uniform: Complete, neat, and correct uniforms must be worn at all times as specified in the Uniform Guide.

Property: Show care and respect for school property and the belongings of others.

Category A (Minor): Lateness, uniform violations, class disruption. Handled by class teacher via warnings, minor tasks, or loss of recess privilege.

Category B (Intermediate): Disrespect to staff, truancy, continuous disruptive behavior, minor property damage. Referred to Year Tutor/Section Head, parents notified, detention or community service assigned.

Category C (Major): Academic dishonesty, theft, physical aggression, vandalism, cyberbullying. Referred to Disciplinary Committee, leading to suspension or dismissal.

In alignment with the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) guidelines, corporal punishment in any form is strictly prohibited at Silverdale Schools.

Alternative corrections such as reflection essays, loss of free time, community service within the school, and parent-teacher contract meetings are implemented.

Bullying is defined as repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power.

This includes physical abuse (hitting, kicking, taking belongings), verbal abuse (name-calling, insults, teasing), indirect abuse (spreading rumors, exclusion), and cyberbullying (offensive messages via phone, social networks, or email).

Regular awareness programs during morning assemblies and Civic Education classes.

Peer mentors trained to identify signs of distress and help resolve minor conflicts under supervision.

Anonymous reporting boxes situated in key areas around the primary and secondary campuses.

All reported incidents of bullying are investigated immediately by the Guidance Counselors and Section Heads.

The bully will face disciplinary measures, which may include suspension, community service, and mandatory behavioral counseling.

Supportive counseling is provided to the victim to rebuild confidence and ensure ongoing safety.

All campus gates are manned by trained security personnel 24/7. CCTV cameras monitor all entry points and corridors.

Visitors must sign in at the gate house, obtain a Visitor's Pass, and remain in the designated reception area unless escorted by a staff member.

Students will only be released to parents or authorized guardians with valid pickup cards.

Our well-equipped school clinic is staffed by a qualified, registered nurse during school hours.

For minor ailments or injuries, first aid is administered. Parents are notified immediately of any clinic visits.

In cases of severe emergency, the school will transport the student to our affiliated hospital (listed in parent directory) and contact the parents immediately.

Classrooms and restrooms are sanitized multiple times daily by facility staff.

Hand sanitization stations are placed at the entrance of all buildings and dining halls.

Strict water filtration audits are conducted monthly to ensure clean drinking water is available across campuses.

Creche: 3 Months – 18 Months

Nursery: Minimum age of 3 years by September 1st of the entry year.

Primary 1: Minimum age of 5 years by September 1st of the entry year.

High School (JS1): Minimum age of 10-11 years by September 1st of the entry year.

Grade placement is finalized by the Admissions Committee based on age, previous transcripts, and performance in our entrance assessments.

All prospective students from Primary 1 through High School must write an entrance assessment in Mathematics and English Language.

An interview with the candidate and parents is required to complete the process.

Student progress is evaluated using a dual structure: Formative assessments (ongoing class quizzes, projects, homework) and Summative assessments (Mid-Term Tests and End-of-Term Examinations).

Continuous Assessment (CA) accounts for 40% of the total term grade, while the End-of-Term Examination accounts for 60%.

90% - 100%: A+ (Distinction)

80% - 89%: A (Excellent)

70% - 79%: B (Very Good)

60% - 69%: C (Credit / Good)

50% - 59%: D (Pass)

Below 50%: F (Fail)

Students with academic standings below 50% in core subjects (Math, English) are placed on academic support pathways.

Mid-term academic reviews are sent to parents midway through each term.

Comprehensive physical and digital reports are issued at the end of every term.

Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs) are held once per term to discuss individual learning goals.

Silverdale Schools is committed to open dialogue. For academic concerns, parents are advised to contact the Class Teacher first.

If unresolved, concerns should be escalated to the Section Coordinator / Vice Principal Academics.

Administrative, financial, or operational grievances should be directed to the School Secretary or Admissions Office.

Stage 1: Submit written complaint to the Head Teacher / Principal via the school's admin email. Acknowledgement is sent within 24 hours.

Stage 2: Investigation phase. The school will review logs, interview relevant staff, and propose a resolution meeting with the parents within 5 working days.

Stage 3: Executive appeal. If parents remain unsatisfied, a formal appeal can be submitted to the Board of Directors for final administrative arbitration.

Silverdale Schools maintains a strict drug-free campus. The possession, distribution, purchase, or consumption of illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes, vapes, and unauthorized prescription medications by students on school premises, transport buses, or during school-sponsored off-campus activities is strictly prohibited.

This policy applies equally to all students, staff, and visitors.

We incorporate comprehensive drug awareness seminars, health education modules, and counseling sessions into our curriculum (Basic Science, Civic Education) to equip students with critical knowledge on health risks.

Any student found in violation of this policy will immediately face suspension, pending a disciplinary hearing.

Repeat offenses or involvement in trafficking/distributing prohibited substances will result in immediate expulsion.

Mandatory professional external rehabilitation support contracts must be signed before any suspended student is considered for readmission.
